THINGS are getting quicker following the Great North Run - and it’s not just the local fundraisers.

Members of the Borders Barmy Army handed over a cheque to the Friends of the Borders General Hospital following their successful fundraising efforts over the 13.1 miles.

And the £8,100 cheque will go towards the purchase of a new high-speed X-ray machine.

The new C-arm machine for the orthopaedic operating theatre allows a patient to have an immediate check on the results of their operation.

A spokeswoman for the Friends of the Borders General Hospital said: “We would like to thank all those who took part in the run on our behalf for their magnificent efforts.” And appeal has also been made for runners to come forward and take part in this year’s Great North Run.
