A HIGH-TECH fibre optic cable company has announced a £4 million investment at its two factories in the Borders and an increase in its workforce.

Emtelle UK Limited, who supplied 29 million metres of ducting for British Telecom last year for its high speed broadband network, is investing in new technology at its plants in Hawick and Jedburgh.

They will be employing an extra 15 staff to take the workforce up to almost 200 employees.

Chairman George Brown said: “We have been doing business with BT since the early 1980s and this has provided a stable platform for our business.

“We have to think long term and need to make this investment. We are extremely busy at the moment with more output and more jobs. We currently export to 60 countries worldwide.”
