THE speed limit in Tweedbank could be eased - to address traffic concerns in the village.
Community council chairman John Cavaroli has suggested increasing the current 30mph limit on Tweedbank Drive to 40mph, between the BGH roundabout and entrance to the new rail terminus, opposite the industrial estate.
He revealed he hoped that would encourage more motorists accessing the train station, industrial estate and sports complex to enter Tweedbank from the BGH roundabout and reduce the traffic going through the centre of the village.
Railway construction traffic has already been rerouted to avoid disruption and improve road safety.
Scottish Borders Council leader David Parker welcomed the idea this week and agreed to investigate.
It follows the community council’s decision to delay a decision on introducing speed bumps on the Galashiels end of Tweedbank Drive until after the new rail terminus is opened in just over a year.
