LAST year it was announced that house building in Tweedbank was complete.

However, with the new rail line connecting the village with the rest of the world due to open in less than a year, it is a commuity that is going places. And community councillors are inviting residents to come along for the ride.

They are involved in a series of projects designed to make the area a more attractive place to live.

Earlier this summer, a subgroup celebrated the opening of new allotments off Essenside Drive which have proved so popular there are already plans to extend them.

However, it only took root after months of planning which involved investigating alternative sites.

The community council also has plans to light up the village with a new Christmas lights display and to create a memorial garden to remember all those who have helped make Tweedbank vibrant.

A community orchard, new tourist trail, and floral displays have also been discussed. And it is in the process of setting up a special projects group to get started.

However, an appeal for support to the community centre’s house committee only resulted in one extra pair of hands lending their support.

So now Tweedbank Community Council is appealing to Border Telegraph readers for help to recruit more volunteers. Anyone interested should contact community council chairman John Cavaroli by calling 01896 753172. He said: “The more the merrier. It’s like Bank Street gardens (in Galashiels), it would be great to have something like that in Tweedbank but a lot of work needs to go into it.”
