A 32-YEAR-OLD woman and an 18-year-old man hurled abuse at police officers after being ejected from Jedburgh Sheriff Court for being drunk.

Shocked members of the public looked on as Donna Rowley, aka Wilson, and Shane Adamson - who had been drinking Buckfast in the morning before attending court - refused to stop shouting and swearing and gesticulating at officers and were arrested.

On the journey in a police vehicle to the cells at Hawick, the pair continued shouting abuse and Adamson of Howden Road, Jedburgh, was sick over Wilson who lives in Cairnmount, Jedburgh.

The pair were both sentenced to a 12-month Community Payback Order when they appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on August 22.

Wilson also admitted breaching her ASBO, and both were on bail at the time.

Defence lawyer Iain Burke told a previous hearing, the accused had no recollection of the events and appeared in court very shame-faced.

Adamson was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work within nine months.

Sheriff Peter Paterson warned both accused: “This is a direct alternative to custody.”
