The match is being hosted by Gala Rugby Club at Netherdale on Friday, February 27, kick-off 7.30pm.

And follows on from Scotland’s dramatic 36-34 victory over Wales a fortnight ago.

The team is expected to feature players from host club Gala, Melrose and Hawick.

And supporters from across the Borders and beyond are being invited along to show their support.

Gala President Scott Dalgleish said: “With the standard of rugby they showed the last time, folk should be getting down and supporting the boys. The Wales game was one of the best games I have seen in a long time.

“Italy aren’t going to bring a lot of spectactors with them but we’d hope the locals will come and support it.

“It’s nice getting the young guys here and I just wish more folk would support it.” Melrose Head Coach John Dalziel is assistant coach with Scotland Under 20s. And he was feeling confident ahead of the fixture.

“The boys really appreciate playing at Netherdale, they love the environment,” he explained. “They had choices to go other places and it was requested to come here.

“There was a good crowd of 2500 at the Wales game on a horrible night when it was televised so we’re hoping now that the weather is getting a bit better that the Borders public come out and get behind them.

“There is a lot of Borders interest here with Hawick, Gala and Melrose all represented. We are hoping for another big turnout against the Italians and try to get another win there.” Elsewhere on Friday, the Scotland club international, which also includes a number of Borderers, are due to tackle England Counties at Blackpool.
