CANADIAN Alisdair Piercy has been appointed as the 2018 Colonial Standard Bearer in Selkirk.

The 39-year-old, who is the son of Drew Piercy and Barbara Hood (nee Smail), works for the largest private wealth management company in North America, Richardson GMP, as a senior software development manager.

Alisdair, who is married to Sarah, emigrated to Canada in 2006.

And he became a Canadian citizen last year.

Alasdair and Sarah will fly into Selkirk this June with their two children, six-year-old Cameron and three-year-old Mackinley.

Alisdair was the unanimous choice of the Colonial Society members last week at their Annual General Meeting.

Following his appointment, Alisdair has informed the Society that his wife, Sarah, will buss his flag.

He added: "I look forward to bringing my family home to see where I grew up and to share in such an amazing tradition."

Alisdair follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Archie Smail and dad Drew who were Standard Bearers for the Weavers and Hammermen, respectively

The Colonial Society would be pleased to learn of any returning 'exiles’' or their descendants, or any visitors from overseas, who are attending this year’s common riding.
