SELKIRK'S newly appointed Standard Bearer will be unveiled from the Victoria Hall this week - following a change of plans by the organising Common Riding Trust.

The Border Telegraph revealed last month that delays in repairs to the Town Hall had forced changes to the Appointment Night procedures.

But initial plans for the Royal Burgh Standard Bearer to be unveiled via the back door of the Town Hall were later scrapped.

And last week the Trust announced the Victoria Hall will be used instead.

A spokesman said: "Due to ongoing work to the Town Hall, the newly appointed Royal Burgh Standard Bearer shall be carried from the front doors of the Victoria Hall."

Work to repair pillars at the front of the Victoria Hall entrances were completed at the weekend in time for Friday evening's celebrations.

After being introduced at 7pm, the Standard Bearer will be carried around the town before returning to the Victoria Hall for the Appointment Night Concert.

The spokesman added: "The newly appointed Standard Bearer will be chaired around the town via the Back Row, Kirk Wynd, Market Place and the High Street."
