LOCAL running group Jog Selkirk sidestepped London and headed for Blackpool last weekend.

The runners, known affectionately as Puffer's Huffers, took part in the seaside town's Festival of Running along the upper and lower walkways of the North Promenade.

Athletes from the group took part in all three events on the Saturday - the 10k, 5k and the 2k - and all in sweltering heat.

Jog Selkirk is affiliated to Jog Scotland, Scotland’s recreational running network, and is part of Scottish athletics.

The eight members, who meet every Tuesday evening, Hazel Herriot, Vivienne Kennedy, Bryan Hoggan, Andrew Lang, Mirelle Young, Rosemary Tarrant, Helen Hoggan and Linda Revels all recorded good times for the various distances.

The emphasis at every Jog Scotland group is on enjoying exercise and supporting one another in a friendly atmosphere.

Groups, just like Selkirk, are led by qualified Jog Leaders, with the emphasis that nobody is “too slow”.

Jog Selkirk meet every Tuesday at Selkirk Swimming Pool at 6pm.

Andrew Lang told us: "Why not come along and whatever your age, shape, size or fitness level, you will be made welcome."
