AROUND 1000 homes and businesses in Selkirk were left without power in the run up to Christmas.

Scottish Power blamed a cable fault for the disconnection from the electricity grid.

Most customers were reconnected within 15 minutes of the first report of the fault last Tuesday at 8.30pm.

But some were left without power for up to two hours.

A Scottish Power spokeswoman said: 'A cable fault could be caused by any number of problems.' But she added: 'We apologise to customers for any inconvenience.'
