LOCAL residents are being urged to share their common riding stories, photos and items for a special Selkirk Common Riding exhibition to be held at Halliwells House Museum from 23 May until 5 July 2009.

The exhibition is a unique opportunity for people to have their items under the spotlight in the Robson Gallery for six weeks while the common riding is happening in the town.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Community Learning, Councillor Graham Garvie is keen for people to take the opportunity to share their experiences of the common riding: 'As this is the year of the Homecoming, this is a fantastic opportunity for locals to really get involved and make this a show-stopping exhibition for visitors to the whole of the Borders.'

Assistant Curator Phoebe Lowe added: 'We are interested in any items which are available to go on loan for the exhibition. These might include images, paintings, clothing or flags. We are also interested in any common riding stories. Maybe you are going to be part of the common riding? What are you favourite aspects? We need your input - so if you have any Selkirk common riding knowledge we want to know about it.'

Anyone wishing to contribute should visit the museum team at Municipal Buildings, High street, Selkirk (opposite the Somerfield supermarket on the High Street) or call the office on 01750 20096 and speak to Phoebe Lowe.

All objects will be returned to the owners after the exhibition.
