SIR Sean Connery and Selkirk take centre stage on the big screen with the release of a new animated film.

The picture, called Sir Billi, features Sir Sean in the lead role as skateboarding grandfather, and Selkirk based knitwear manufacturer Lochcarron were asked to design a special tartan for his character.

And although the film is animated, the tartan has gone into production and has even adorned the hips of Sir Sean himself.

The fabric was woven over a period of ten weeks, then registered as a member of the Scottish Tartans Authority, proving its authenticity for the hero's real-life and film wardrobes.

Alistair Buchan, Chairman of Lochcarron, told the Border Telegraph: "We are all delighted when the film company approached us and asked us to make the tartan.

"There wasn't a great quantity made, about 30 metres, so there was only 3 garments made from it, including Sir Billi's signaure dungarees, and they were given to Sir Sean as a momento of the film.

"In the past we have designed a tartan for Shrek, and it makes us very proud to see our hard work come to life on the big screen.

"Sir Billi looks like it will be a very interesting film, and we can't wait to see it when it comes out this summer."

Sir Sean said of the film: "I'm excited to be a part of this incredible film and Scotland's first animated feature. Sir Billi is truly a first class film, with an exceptional cast, and is sure to delight audiences of all ages."

Centred around the antics of Highland widower William Sedgewick, aka Sir Billi, the film is a family feature that promises to offer comedy and action in equal measure.

Starring alongside the world's favourite James Bond are Alan Cumming as a hapless goat and familiar names such Miriam Margolyes of Romeo and Juliet fame, Ruby Wax, Alex Norton and Ford Kiernan.

Produced by husband wife team Sascha and Tessa Hartman, Sir Billi is Scotland's first full-length animation feature film and has taken 60 animators four years to bring it to the big screen. The film is scheduled for release this summer.
