A BANK worker has been charged with being in possession of a knife and attempting to self-harm in the dock of Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Gemma Moffat of Windram Road, Chirnside, made no plea or declaration to the charges of having an offensive weapon and committing breach of the peace.

The offences are alleged to have occurred just after the mother-of-two was jailed for 16 months on February 15 this year for conning £40,000 from an elderly dementia sufferer.

The 26-year-old had admitted abusing her position at the Royal bank of Scotland to embezzle the cash from vulnerable 78-year-old neighbour Phyllis Horsfall's account.

The court was told Moffat used the £40,000 to clear debts, fund a holiday and treat.

The latest case - also at Selkirk Sheriff Court - was continued for further examination and Moffat remains in custody.
