A black tie ball that will fundraise in memory of murdered schoolgirl Paige Doherty will toast 'her first legal drink'.

The Paige's Promise Ball will take place at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel on what would have been the teenager's 18th birthday on April 14.

Her mother Pamela Munro said: "We started Paige's Promise after Paige was taken from us, because we wanted help other families in our position."

Former Clyde One DJ Suzie McGuire will host the evening in front of 650 people.

She said: I'm so touched to be asked to host the first fundraising ball for Paige Doherty who was taken far too soon.

"I will do my utmost to make it as special as Paige deserves."

Tickets for the event are priced at £70. Each brief includes: Drinks on arrival, 3 course meal, midnight snack, Paige's first legal drink and entertainment that includes a band and DJ.

John Leathem admitted killing the 15-year-old when she stopped for a breakfast roll at his Delicious Deli in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, on March 19 last year.

He was given a mandatory life sentence at the High Court in Glasgow in October and ordered to spend at least 27 years behind bars, but launched an appeal against the minimum jail term later that month.

Senior judges at the Appeal Court in Edinburgh then quashed the original punishment and then imposed a 23-year sentence.

Tickets and all proceeds from the special evening at the Hilton will go towards the organisation set up in Paige's name.

Her mother Pamela Munro added: "Our next thing is to help with a outdoor retreat type weekend for kids to meet with other kids who have lost someone tragically and hopefully work on their grief together."
