SIR, Recent news reports concerning the introduction of parking charges in Peebles have stated that because some people are being hit with penalty charges due to being unaware they need to display a ticket even during the free period then the solution is to charge for all parking time.
Would a simpler solution not be to scrap the charges altogether? As we have no traffic wardens in Peebles it also raises the question of who is actually issuing the penalty notices in the first place? And is the change in policy really just a ploy to cover a stealth move by Scottish Borders Council to get parking charges back into Peebles which we all know will increase over time.
I am, etc.
