Sir, So Scottish Borders Council has earmarked £200,000 to install traffic lights at Neidpath Corner in Peebleswhen this money would surely be better spent on repairing potholes that are causing untold damage to our vehicles.

I have been travelling along this road for four years and, yes, occasionally vehicles meet but hey, guess what? They stop, one waves the other through, a smile is offered and all is well.

People of the Borders are trying to travel to work so we can pay our taxes for you to spend wisely, please repair the holes so we can avoid having to pay for new tyres and replace damaged wheels.

Roads are narrow and sometimes twisty but that is known locally as living in the countryside. What do you do next? Close Biggiesknowe because it’s a little narrow, our roads are what they are.

Just maintain them, don’t alter them at huge expense, you can’t afford to spend our money in this way.

I am, etc.

Michael Adams Peebles
