Sir, As I was unable to attend the Border League Cup Final between Gala and Melrose at Berwick I switched on the local Border TV news the next evening confidently expecting at least a minute or two video of the game in the sports section.
When that section arrived we were given an elongated video report on the suggestion that Workington and Whitehaven are considering an amalgamation to save rugby league in Cumbria.
The inference of the title Border TV is somewhat misleading. Here in the Scottish Borders we comfortably refer to the local ITV station as Border TV as somehow that is what it is - our Borders TV. In Cumbria the word Border is just the name of the station and little more.
Fortunately I have access to STV and can choose local news from all over Scotland sadly minus the Borders. However, I will gladly settle for Edinburgh and Penicuik rather than Carlisle and Workington.
I am, etc.
