WITH the new school year well underway, Galashiels Academy’s press group decided to catch-up with our new head team and gather some of their thoughts on the year ahead of them.

Our new head boy and head girl, Thomas Otton and Emma Gordon, spoke to us about the responsibility they are sharing with their peers, their goals for the upcoming year and the pride they feels at representing the school.

“It is a real honour to be chosen to be part of this year’s head team” Thomas said. “I feel it is a great opportunity to give something back to the school, which has invested so much in me over the past five years.”

Emma tells us that she and the rest of the head team are “very committed to working with staff and pupils to achieve the Academy’s vision and identify ways to improve performance”.

Both our head boy and head girl wish to “ensure they are visible and approachable to everyone in the school” and encourage feedback and ideas from the pupils. They aim to integrate their school further into the local community and are determined to work hard in order to achieve a positive, lasting impression for future years.

Thomas and Emma are joined by Struan Howlieson, Thomas Caldow (Deputy Head Boys), Grace Wilson and Hannah MacRae (Deputy Head Girls) to form the head team. They are pictured alongside the elected sixth year prefects.

Everyone at the Academy wishes the head team a successful year ahead!
