THE Galashiels Academy P.E department and senior girls led an assembly advertising a wide variety of sports for S1-S3 girls to take part in.

‘Girls for Sport’ was an all-girl assembly and spoke about sports club available at the school.  These included netball, gym, hockey, tennis, rugby and sprint club.

Ainsley, in S3, told us she played hockey already but would be interested in signing up for gym and was not aware of the netball club – one that has caught her eye.

Maddie (S2) is also currently does hockey as well as sprint club but liked the sound of the girls’ rugby team and was keen to give it a shot.

The assembly was a huge success with lots of girls interested in signing up to try new sports!

Meanwhile, on September 5, the Galashiels Hockey teams travelled to Duns for their first away match. All the games started at 10am at Duns High School.

The seniors played a great first half and were up 2-0 with both excellent goals scored by Emma Spence. Despite being one player down for part of the match Gala managed to keep their lead.

In the next half, Gala, playing great hockey, managed to score another six goals; two from Alex Bell, two from Robyn Ballantyne and a further two from Emma Spence. Duns, to their credit, scored two late on to bring the final score to 8-2. The first and second year girls had a successful morning too, both winning their games 15-0.
