THE second event in the 2012 Borders Sport and Leisure Trust Triathlon series took place at Selkirk Leisure Centre on Sunday, May 6th.

Seventy athletes participated in the standard triathlon course consisting of a 1500m swim, 38.83km cycle and 10.01km run.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport and Leisure Trust, the social enterprise, not-for-profit company that runs many of the sports and leisure facilities and programmes in the region said: "It is brilliant to see our Triathlon series continuing to attract such strong support. Training for and competing in a triathlon can be exceptionally rewarding and we are delighted that more people than ever are choosing to get involved."

The Borders Sport and Leisure Trust Triathlon series will continue with events in Peebles (June 10th), Hawick (July 1st), Kelso (August 12th) and Eyemouth (September 23rd). These events also include a "Come & Tri" taster (shortened version of the triathlon) to encourage those who have not attempted a triathlon before to take part.

The results from the Selkirk Triathlon are as follows - Top three Males: 1st, Iain Veitch, 2.11.24; 2nd, Robert Harrison, 2.13.18 (1st Male Vet); 3rd, Gregor Angus, 2.22.35. Top three Females: 1st, Hazel Smith, 2.25.22 (6th overall); 2nd, Jane Holmes , 2.33.53 (15th overall, 1st female Vet); 3rd, Rhoda McPherson, 2.36.17 (19th overall).
