GALA Hotspur failed to give coach Fred Blackie a perfect finish to his Golden Saturday as they threw away three points against Linton Hotspur
Blackie was one of the Golden Ticket Borders Railway winners who travelled with wife Sheila on the Galashiels train but his side could only draw 5-5 in Division B.
Scott Nightingale scored two, as did Michael Louth while Marcus Gordon scored the other.
Blackie said: “It was a great honour to be picked for the Golden Ticket train. Unfortunately the lads could not cap the day with a win as we threw away three two goal leads. It could have been worse as Linton had a goal ruled out for offside in the last minute. We are scoring plenty but need to stop leaking goals.”
Elsewhere in Division B, an injury time winner by Paul Young saw Earlston Rhymers pull off a shock victory over Tweedmouth Amateurs 3-2.  Young said: “Tweedmouth are a good side and had not lost a game in two seasons, so to secure our first win and points of the season against them was a great feeling.”
Hawick United won their first game this season with a 3-1 triumph over Coldstream Amateurs, while Duns Reserves beat Ancrum 4-1.
In Division A, Gordon remain the early frontrunners thanks to a 3-1 win at West Barns Star with player/coach Craig Livingstone and Kevin Utterson among the scorers.
Jed Legion are their closest challengers presently, and they recorded an impressive 4-0 win at Langholm Legion. Craig Hall, Brodie Irvine, Nathan Gillie and an own goal completed the scoring.
A late strike by Callum Gass helped Stow to a 1-0 win at Hawick Legion and kept the Villagers third in Division A, while Andrew Henderson scored two for Greenlaw as they thumped Berwickshire rivals Chirnside United 5-1 at Comrades Park. A Scott Leitch double saw Newtown make the semi finals of the Collie Cup with a 7-3 hammering of Biggar United at KGV Park.
In the Scottish Amateur Cup, Leithen Rovers withdrew from their away clash at Craigroyston CYFC, while Tweeddale Rovers are through to round two when their opponents Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts also withdrew from the competition.
