THE last two Borders sides in the Scottish Amateur Cup both suffered heavy defeats to slump out of the competition.

Tweeddale Rovers cup woes continued with a 5-1 loss at home to Glenburn Miners Welfare.

Rovers, who were knocked out of the South and Wright cups in their previous two games, were undone by the Prestwick team, with Moray McLeod scoring Tweeddale’s only goal.

Linton Hotspur conceded six second half goals to loss 8-3 to Edinburgh team Sandys. The game was tied at 2-2 at half time but Spurs were unable to hold out against the LEAFA Premier One side

The Division A title race was thrown wide open after favourites Gordon had a shock 4-3 home loss to Langholm Legion.

West Barns Star moved joint top with Jed Legion – who did not have a game – after the Dunbar team drew 1-1 at Stow.

Gary Cleghorn opened the scoring for Stow, who have Paul Young back coaching with the club after he left Earlston Rhymers, but Star equalised with 11 minutes left.

Elsewhere, Chirnside United thumped bottom side Leithen Rovers 7-0.

In Division B, second placed Tweedmouth Amateurs closed the gap on leaders Tweeddale Rovers to two points with a 4-1 win at Coldstream Amateurs, whose scorer was Darren Simpson.

Shaun Hardie followed up his Wright Cup final hat-trick with another treble as Gala Hotspur won 4-0 at Ancrum, while Robbie Kelly scored two goals and missed a penalty in his final game for Hawick United as they moved up to third with a 5-2 win over Duns Reserves.

The top of the table clash in Division C ended in a 0-0 draw between Biggar and Newtown, while there were wins for Kelso Thistle and Hawick Legion Rovers.
