GALA Hotspur moved into the Division B promotion race after seeing off Eyemouth Amateurs.

Spurs recovered from going a goal down to win 3-1 at Warner Park, with Shaun Hardie scoring his seventh and eighth goals in his last three games and Stewart Robertson also hitting the net.

Jimmy Dunbar and Fred Blackie’s men now face rivals Tweeddale Rovers and Tweedmouth Amateurs at the Public Park in the new two weeks, which could well decide if they win promotion to Division A.

Blackie said: “We were fantastic and worked hard across the pitch for a deserved win.

“We are up to third in the league and if we can take something from our next two games at home against the top two teams we put ourselves in with a great chance.”

Spurs hopes were improved by Tweedmouth’s 2-1 loss to Linton Hotspur, with brothers Mike and Brian McEwan scoring for the West Linton men.

In Division A, Chris Gillon overcame his Border Cup heartache to fire Jed Legion to the top of the league.

Gillon was sent off in last month’s final as Jed were edged out by Gordon, but the striker scored two as they beat Hawick Legion 2-1 at Wilton Lodge Park.

The only other game to survive the heavy rain which hit the Borders on Saturday was Coldstream’s Waddell Cup tie with Biggar United, which was switched to Kelso’s Woodside Park.

And it was Division C leaders Biggar who beat their Division B hosts 5-0, to set up a second round tie at home to Chirnside United.
