A FEW familiar faces returned to Netherdale last week to dust down their boots for the annual Ian Hume Memorial Match.

The fundraiser for the Borders Branch of Parkinson's UK is played during the festive holidays each year in memory of the Gala Rovers stalwart.

In a thrilling and, at times, free-flowing match a Gala Hotspur Select were edged out by Gala Fairydean Rovers Select.

Steven Noble and Johnny Kayser both notched up doubles for the Fairydean Rovers with the other goals coming from Paul Hossack, James Scott and Mark Darling.

Teenager Tommy Patterson scored two for the Hotspur with Craig Lowrie adding the third.

Ian's son, Raymond told us: "What a fantastic day and a massive thank you to Gala Fairydean Rovers for giving me the use of the pitch and for the fantastic hospitality after the game.

"I'd also like to thank all the players who turned up to play.

"I can assure you I am very humbled and emotional at the response."

The Border Telegraph's Robert Fairburn acted as referee for most of the 90 minutes.

All of the players and supporters donated on the day.

And the buckets were out again last Saturday for further donations during the Lowland League derby between Gala Fairydean Rovers and Selkirk.

Graeme McIver, secretary of Gala Fairydean Rovers, said: "The game in memory of Gala Rovers stalwart Ian Hume has now become at an annual event at the 3G Arena and raises money for a very worthwhile cause, the Borders Branch of Parkinson's UK."
