CROSSFIT instructor Neil Davidson is on the verge of joining the fittest athletes on earth.

The 50-year-old former Royal Marine from Selkirk has already qualified for the The Revolution International CrossFit event being held in Northern Ireland at the end of this month.

And he is also pushing for a place in the finals of the Battle of Britain along with several other members of the RDAS CrossFit in Selkirk.

Neil told us: "A number of our athletes are at present doing qualifiers for the British Championship CrossFit events.

"We are also looking forward to the CrossFit Games qualifiers, where CrossFitters from all over the world compete against each other over five weeks of vigorous workouts for places at the CrossFit Games in Carson California.

"Athletes that get to the finals are indeed amongst fittest people on the planet with the winners getting crowned the Fittest on Earth."

Neil himself is currently taking part in three qualifying workouts, which involves rowing, weightlifting, gymnastic movements and bodyweight movements.

At the Revolution International CrossFit final on January 30 he will compete in three workouts during the day, consisting of swimming 25 metres before doing three muscle ups on the bar and repeating for as many rounds as he can in a set time.

The second workout is a complex weightlifting movement.

And the finale will consist of rowing, gymnastic movements on a bar, Olympic lifts, burpees and a handstand walk.

Neil added: "This event will certainly test my all- round fitness and will bring out any weaknesses.

"I pride myself at being fitter now than I was when I was in the Royal Marines 20 years ago and still progressing."
