THE names of the latest sporting heroes joining the Scottish Borders Hall of Fame will be unveiled at the Celebration of Sport Awards at Peebles Hydro on March 4.

The Hall of Fame, established in November 2005, celebrates the sporting achievements of Borderers both nationally and internationally. Comprising wholly of individuals who were born, educated or lived in the Scottish Borders every inductee has contributed to the legacy of sport in the region.

The growing list of Sporting Hall of Fame members includes men and women from across a wealth of sporting fields who have contributed in variety of ways, from competitors and coaches to broadcasters and medical practitioners. To date, forty-four people, whose achievements span over a century, have been recognised and two more will be announced at this year’s Borders Sport and Leisure Celebration of Sport Awards.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport and Leisure said: “The Hall of Fame plays a continuing role in reminding us of achievements past and present and in inspiring future success. From Ned Haig who devised rugby 7s in 1883 to 1970s pioneering sailor Chay Blyth, rugby legends, John Jeffery, Gregor Townsend and Bill McLaren and current sports broadcaster Jill Douglas, the Hall of Fame line-up showcases talent on all levels and it is a huge accolade to be added to this list.”

Stuart Ostle of Ostles Tyres, sponsors of the Celebration of Sport Hall of Fame Award added: "The Scottish Borders has so many things to be proud of and none more so than those who have been named on the Scottish Borders Sporting Hall of Fame roll of honour."

This year's Inspirational Performance, Team of the Year and Sport's Personality of the Year will be decided by public vote.
