Borders 13-9 Ayrshire

Borders 32-2 Renfrewshire B

Borders 22-12 Edinburgh

THE Borders U15 netball squad, sponsored by Caldwell’s Homemade Icecream, travelled to Edinburgh at the weekend for the final of three days of play in which they take on 11 other district squads from the south of Scotland.

With three matches left to play, Borders were sitting in the top three south of Scotland squads alongside Glasgow A and Edinburgh A.

The weekend’s fixtures brought them head-to-head with Edinburgh in the final match.

Borders took a while to warm up, making heavy weather of the match against Ayrshire, finally securing the win, but threatened throughout.

Their match against Renfrewshire B enabled them to get back their flow and confidence.

All was put behind them in the final match of the day against Edinburgh, with a renewed energy and panache which delighted supporters and took Edinburgh by surprise.

Superb individual performances from Borders players emerged in addition to a solid team effort, with Lucy Gray in centre having her best outing to date, supported by a formidable defence trio of Jess Wodehouse (GK), Sophie Walpole (GD) and Anna McGorum (WD).

Youngster Ellie O’Hara settled well into a wing attack position, using her speed to drive the attacking moves to the competent shooters, Rianna Sterricks (GA) and Kirsten Rodwell (GS), returning gradually back from injury.

The final match of the day produced a solid win for Borders over Edinburgh, to take them into joint lead position on points across the south of Scotland. The top 6 teams will progress to final championship day against the top six teams from the north of Scotland.
