POWERFUL Rachel Knox has broken through into the elite of weightlifting.

The 26-year-old from Melrose took part in an event in Glasgow earlier this month to gain some experience.

Rachel is amongst the best multi-disciplinary CrossFit athletes in the country.

And, despite competing in an individual weightlifting competition for the first time, beat several reigning national champions.

Coach Neil Davidson, who runs the RDAS CrossFit in Selkirk, told us: "Rachel ended up winning her class at the first attempt.

"She has now received an invite to compete at the British Weightlifting Championships in Coventry in June.

"This is a fantastic achievement from one of our coaches who has progressed so much."

Rachel is part of the Selkirk-based RDAS team who will travel to Birmingham to take part in the Battle of Britain CrossFit championships.

She has also qualified for the European CrossFit finals in Dublin.
