ON Sunday afternoon Gala Academy pupils Max and Lex Rogerson had to battle through the Hibernian victory parade to reach the ring for their latest boxing bout.

The Gala boys were competing in a Leith Victoria ABC show at Edinburgh Masonic Club on Leith Walk.

Representing Bronx Boxing Club in Tranent, first up was Max who was again taking on reigning Scottish champion Thomas Fowley from Craigmillar ABC in a rematch of a fight a month ago where Rogerson won a clear unanimous decision at Hawick ABC’s show.

The rematch was immediately made and was a different story this time as a clearly motivated Fowley was there determined to gain revenge.

Despite 14-year-old Max taking the first round with some clean right hands, the Craigmillar boxer came back strongly and landed midway through the second round with a impressive three punch combination.

With the outcome likely dependant on the last round Rogerson boxed more cautiously and landed many clean punches with Fowley throwing much of his punches just out of reach.

After much deliberation the judges again awarded the victory to Max, this time by split decision which reflected a closer contest than the previous month.

Next up was Max's 13-year-old brother Lex who was up against the tough Jack White from the Jonseys Club in Stirling.

Despite being caught by a couple of early decent punches Rogerson largely controlled proceedings from beginning to end, fighting out of an awkward southpaw stance and counter punching White for the first two rounds.

During most of the final round White had stopped throwing any meaningful punches with the younger Rogerson brother then starting to dominate and the final bell definitely coming at a good time for the Stirlingshire boxer.

There was no doubt which way the judges would go with Lex receiving a unanimous decision and then receiving some unexpected praise as he left the ring from Edinburgh’s former World Champion Alex Arthur who was an interested observer.

It was two good wins to conclude another successful season for the fighting brothers who finished their bouts in time to see Hibernian’s Scottish Cup celebrations as the bus passed by the venue.
