FORMER Scotland star Garry O’Connor has signed a one year extension to his player-manager contract at Yarrow Park.

And the 33-year-old striker believes he is assembling a team that can compete for glory in the Lowland League.

Although the former Hibernian favourite has already signed a handful of players for the 2016/17 Lowland League campaign, his own contract extension was only finalised last Thursday in Edinburgh.

Fans at Yarrow Park can expect to see up to a dozen new faces – including a new assistant manager – ahead of pre-season friendlies starting at the end of June.

O’Connor said: “I know what type of player we need to challenge the top teams in this league and that is who I will be bringing in.”

Former Dundee United duo Garry Kenneth and Davie Robertson will both be part of O’Connor’s playing squad next season.

And Phil Addison, Ross King and Murray Christie have also re-signed from last season’s squad.

With Selkirk applying for a place in the East of Scotland League, it is hoped that a reserve side will also operate out of Yarrow Park.

Promising defenders James Harley and Mark Samson have both agreed terms for next season.

And it is understood at least two teenagers who have just been released by Hibernian will be heading down the A7.

Selkirk chairman Ross Anderson said: “Garry was always going to be here next season it was just a case of making it official.

“He wants himself and Davie Robertson to be able to play more and that is why he is in talks to bring in an assistant manager to make sure we are well represented on the touchlines.

“Garry has drawn up a list of players he wants and he is confident most of them will come.

“We would love to have a place in the East of Scotland for the younger players to progress and earn their place in the Lowland League team.”

Dates are currently being drawn up for Selkirk’s pre-season friendlies with Hibernian, Hearts, Falkirk and Dunfermline amongst the teams expected at Yarrow Park
