SUMMER football is coming to Yarrow Park with a six-week youth academy.

Manager Garry O’Connor will head up a team of top coaches who will deliver the weekday sessions for children from eight up to 16 during the school holidays.

The former Scotland striker believes the five hours of daily practice and coaching will be beneficial for young players of all abilities. He said: “This is more or less how professional players train each week with morning and afternoon sessions.

“We want to make the camps fun and make sure each player gets something out of it.”

Although the full coaching team is still being finalised, youngsters can expect to share the training ground with the likes of former Dundee United cup winner Davie Roberston, and O’Connor’s strike partner at Hibernian Derek Riordan as well as other UEFA qualified coaches.

Three different age groups will operate throughout the six week camp – eight-to-11, 12-to-14, and 15-and-16s – with options ranging from single days to the entire six weeks.

Selkirk chairman Ross Anderson said: “Since we announced the summer camps we’ve had interest from all over the south of Scotland and the Lothians.

“There will be some big named players and coaches helping Garry during the camps – who better to learn from than the players you watched on television.”

Each day’s camp will run from 10am to 12.30pm and then from 1pm to 3pm from Monday, July 4 through to Friday, August 12.

A full week of morning and afternoon sessions costs £59.99 with a morning- or afternoon-only option for £39.99.

And individual days can also be booked at £15.

Mr Anderson added: “We are trying to keep the costs as low as we can to make it affordable for parents.

“If anyone would like further details they should contact the club immediately.”
