PLAYERS at Gala Fairydean Rovers Youths were rewarded for their efforts during the course of the season at the club's annual presentation day at the 3G Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Player of the year and top goal scorer trophies were handed out to the winners in each of the club's age sections.

This year's guest of honour was Gala Fairydean Rovers secretary Graeme McIver who is also the secretary of the club's Juniors section.

He was the recipient of the Youths annual award for services to local football.

Graeme said: "This is the first football trophy I have ever won so I am naturally delighted."

Youths chairman Robert Fairburn explained Graeme would have merited the award for his work in the Juniors Section alone.

He said: "The Juniors are very well organised and each year produce a healthy supply of players to step up to the Youths section for which we are very grateful.

"Graeme has been involved since 2008 and key to its success.

"In 2013 he was appointed secretary of the main club and he has been tireless in ensuring all the criteria is met to compete in the Lowland League as well as pushing the club on to gain its SFA Bronze Licence.

"Many of us have the dream that some day soon Gala Fairydean Rovers will be competing in the Scottish senior leagues with all the big clubs

visiting Netherdale.

"For that to happen the club has to be professional both on and off the pitch. In his role as secretary Graeme is ticking all the boxes for the club off the pitch with all his hard work and new initiatives driving the club to new levels.

"He was instrumental in the formation of the club's walking football and disability teams as well as being the editor of the club's award winning match programme.

"But the list is really endless what he actually does for the club on a weekly basis."

Graeme joins a list of illustrious local names who have won the trophy kindly donated by Stewart Technology.

They are: John Irvine, John Clayton, Garry Fraser, Jimmy Dunbar, Mike Riddell, Colin Rafferty and Fred Blackie.

After the awards ceremony the coaches of both the Youths and Juniors sections battled it out for the Coaches Cup, kindly donated by The Trophy Guy, with the Juniors coming out on top 7-3.
