THERE were records galore being broken at Melrose on Saturday as the cream of Scotland's hill runners descended on the town.

A record number of 209 athletes completing the gruelling Eildon Hill Race.

And the winner of both the men's and women's race set new course records.

Tom Owens from Shettleston Harriers broke the tape in an impressive 34.16 minutes.

His training partner Joe Symonds, also from Shettleston, was 23 seconds further back in second.

Murray Strain from the Hunter Bog Trotters club kept on strongly to take third.

Andrew Cox from the Moorfoots club was the first local home in 25th with a time of 38.50.

Fergus Johnston from the host club, Gala Harriers, was three places further back in a time of 39.18.

And teenager Lucas Cheskin from Peebles was 15 seconds further back in 29th.

Scout Adkin from Peebles won the women's race with another course record.

The 22-year-old international hill runner clocked 41.02 to finish 36th overall.

Secodn lady home was Stephanie Provan in a time of 41.23 - almost a minute ahead of third-placed Charlotte Morgan.
