FORMER Gala player George Liddle scored an unbeaten 80 to guide Penicuik 3rds to victory over Gala/Hawick development side.
Liddle’s knock saw the Midlothian side chase down the development team’s 140 total for a five wicket win in East Division 8.
Bottom of the table Penicuik won the toss and put their visitors into bat which appeared a good decision when Max Hastings and Jason Anthony were both out with the score on just 19.
But Evan Alexander and Allan Moffat steadied the ship until the former was well bowled by Thomson for 20.
But Moffat, playing his first game of the season due to a neck injury, battled on and made 67 not out, with support from Harris Rutherford (8) and Dean Anderson (11 not out).
Penicuik’s reply started in the worst way with a comical run out of Ainslie with the score on six.
But Liddle and Charleson combined in a partnership of 96 before Charleson was caught by Max Hastings off Justin Tait’s bowling.
Rutherford bowled well to claim three wickets in the closing stages but Liddle saw the hosts home in the 36th over.
