FOLLOWING on from their successful Silver Arrow and Flodden 500 competitions recently, Ettrick Forest Archers hosted the British Longbow Society's Harvest Clout at their new club facility on Sunday.

A total of 25 Archers took to the field in perfect weather to shoot the 72 arrow contest over 180 yards for gents and 120 yards for ladies and juniors.

The ladies 120 yd competition was won by Barbara Campbell from Highland Longbows with a score of 117-40-3 (score-hits on target - hits on the clout).

The morning session was won by Ina Morris from Green hollow 62-20-1 and the afternoon session by Betty Wylie from Eden Archers 64-22-2.

The junior 120 yd was won by EFA archer Logan Fairbairn 68-30-0.

The best ends shoot off for the 120 yd target was won by Liz Rodgers of EFA by a foot.

The gents 180 yard contest saw one of the closest fought competitions between EFA's Alan Lindsay and Kyle Fairbairn shooting his first season as a senior having moved up from the Juniors. At the end of the double round of 72 arrows both archers had the same score, the same number of scoring arrows and the same number of hits on the clout at 83-32-3 which sent club chair Dougie Anderson scuttling for the rule book.

The rules stated all things being equal the archers should shoot off against each other but as both were in the best ends shoot off anyway this served for both purposes.

The ultimate winner emerged as Alan Lindsay by one inch to clinch the double round.

Kyle had the consolation of winning the morning session medal with 42-18-2.

Having seen his Daughter win the Juniors and his son win the morning session Jason Fairbairn capped the family day by winning the afternoon session 37-17-1. The 180 yard shoot off by ends was won by Mike Young from Samlesbury Archers by half a bow length. All medals and awards were presented by Lady Paramount Liz Anderson Wife of EFA chair Doug Anderson
