RETURNING bowler Robbie Pringle walked away with Gala Cricket Club's Player of the Year title at its end of season presentation evening last week.

Pringle, who missed the majority of last season with a knee injury, claimed 26 wickets this season, as well as scoring 223 runs and taking 11 catches.

New Zealander Rory Hawes bid farewell to Gala following a summer at the club with the Players' Player of the Year Title after finishing second top run scorer in Division One with 480 runs, which helped propel the Braw Lads into the Championship.

Robbie Irvine took Young Player of the Year again after some fine showings with the ball, including one of only two five wicket hauls, against Edinburgh Accies - the other coming from brother Josh.

Jack Halls also took All Rounder of the Year with his fielding in particular impressive as he took 12 catches in 14 games.

Gala created a development team this season with Hawick which proved a huge success, with ten under 14s being blooded into the side.

Taking an impressive 17 wickets despite only playing two-thirds of the season meant Harris Rutherford took the development team player of the year award.

The juniors saw the double winning under 14 side's most improved player named as Jake Pringle while Hamish Seggie won the under 11 award.

Individual performances were also noted, such as Finlay Rutherford's 204 against Langholm, Hawes' 177 versus Morton, Dinesh Tharanga's brilliant knock of 29 not out in a one wicket victory over league winners Freuchie and Alex Hastings' first 50 against Tranent for the development side.

In the other award categories, Dean Moir picked up the 'Broonlee' Award for worst bit of fielding against Murrayfield DAFS, Jamie Crooks won 'Haggis' for the worst dropped catch and the whole 1st XI were named 'Hole in the Bat' winners after their woeful innings of 36 all out against Murrayfield.

The club wishes to thank all supporters, sponsors, parents and players for their huge support this season.
