Borders 18-8 South Lanarkshire A

Borders 9-15 Renfrewshire A

Borders 14-5 Glasgow B

Borders 8-15 Glasgow A

THE Under 15 Borders District netball squad, comprising all Peebles Netball players, took to the court last weekend in Edinburgh in the first play day of the south districts.

Teams play over three days with the top six south District squads progressing to the finals against the top Districts from the north of Scotland in March.

Borders U15s are at a huge disadvantage this season, due to a new governing body ruling which states that national squad players must not play for their District to avoid over-playing.

Whilst delighted to have their main U15 goal shooter, Emma Raeburn, in the Scotland U21 squad at aged 14, this unfortunately results in Borders going into the toughest of competition against the best in Scotland without their main shooter.

Despite this drawback, the young team notched up a credible win against South Lanarkshire by 18 goals to 8.

There was disaster waiting in the next match against Renfrewshire, when Borders’ wing attack, Ellie O’Hara, crashed to the ground clutching her ankle. A trip to hospital revealed no broken bones, but yet another period out of action for this athlete, who is also the Scottish triple jump U15 record holder and has spent much of the summer season sidelined with a fractured toe.

Borders did well to recover their poise and put on a solid performance to take victory against Glasgow B; and they also held Glasgow A to a close call at half time, before Glasgow A pulled away to victory in their last match of the day.

The next District play day is at the end of November in Glasgow.

Borders U15s: Emma Saxon (Capt), Kerry Minto (GS), Abbie Sorrell (GA), Ellie O’Hara (WA), Hannah Little (WA), Emily Wilson (WD), Molly Falconer (GD), Emma Latto (GK). Missing was Ruby Finn.
