HAWICK United remain the only Borders side left in the Scottish Amateur Cup after Simon Philbin struck a second half winner in a fiery encounter at Rosyth.

The game was tied at 1-1 at half time with Liam Lavery on the scoresheet for United before Rosyth had two men sent off and David Strathdee also red carded for Hawick.

But Philbin scored the winner to send Hawick through to the third round. United’s Ross Scott said: “We had to battle to get through but it means we have now won all seven of our games this season.”

An Ali Borthwick strike for Portobello Thistle sent Stow out of the cup, while Greenlaw also lost 2-1 at Denbeath, with Dougie Brydon on target for the Berwickshire side.

There were also heavy defeats for Gordon and Linton Hotspur to Kinross Colts and Burntisland United, respectively.

Chirnside United moved a point off top spot in Division A with a 4-2 win over Tweeddale Rovers, whose goals came from Simon Warren and Marty Cunningham.

But West Barns Star were denied top place after losing 2-1 at Tweedmouth Amateurs. Brian Mattinson bagged a hat-trick in a 6-1 win for Langholm Legion over basement team Hawick Waverley.

There was a shock in Division B as leaders Newtown were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Gala Hotspur.

Michael Blackwood gave Spurs an early lead before Matty Scott equalised in the second half.

Coldstream had Aaran Macgregor and Bailley Paterson sent off but goals from Shawn and Chris Baillie saw off Earlston Rhymers.

Hawick Legion continued their good form as Callum Hope, Darrel Johnstone and Scott Duncan gave the Teries a 3-0 win at Leithen Rovers, while Kelso Thistle beat Biggar United.

There was also a shock in Division C as leaders CFC Bowholm lost 4-3 to Melrose, having won 8-2 against the same opposition in the Collie Cup.

Sean Robertson’s hat-trick saw Duns Amateurs beat Kelso Amateurs 3-2 and close in on Bowholm.

There were also wins for Berwick Colts and Ancrum.
