TEENAGER Dale Baxter rattled in his first ever hat-trick as Selkirk cruised to victory against BSC Glasgow.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who is on loan from Hearts, was only making his second start for the Yarrow Park club.

But a polished performance by the youngster led to him collecting the match ball – and words of praise from manager Garry O’Connor.

He said: “Dale has plenty of quality and we’re lucky to have him here until the end of the year.

“I thought we were excellent today and on another day we could have had quite a few more goals.”

Baxter netted his first inside the first minute after Jay Doyle raced down the flank to provide an inch-perfect low cross for a back post tap in.

Broomhill almost equalised just four minutes later as Tom Woods smacked the bar from 20 yards.

Selkirk commanded the midfield with Ricky Miller and Ross King enjoying plenty of possession.

Doyle and Phil Addison were both denied by excellent Joe Wilton saves.

But there was little the keeper could do as Baxter steered Andrew Fleming’s angled ball into the roof of the net.

Glasgow enjoyed a brief spell of pressure just before the break with Robbie Duncan forcing a save from Mark Wilson.

A bad injury to striker Gary McCormack delayed play for over two minutes – and it later emerged that the former Gretna goal machine required hospital treatment.

The points were sealed just four minutes after the interval as Miller glanced a header into the far corner from an Addison corner.

Addison was twice denied by the Glasgow keeper before Selkirk finally scored their fourth just before the hour.

Baxter burst into the area and forced a foul from Chris Kasongo. The teenager tucked away the spot kick.

Although the chances dried up in the closing stages Selkirk had done more than enough to secure their third straight home win in the league.
