WILLIAM Smillie and Dougie Brydon bagged a hat-trick each as Greenlaw chalked up double figures against Melrose.

In a weekend of Waddell Cup ties which were devoid of cup shocks, Greenlaw scored 11 without reply to send the Division A side into the last 16 against Division C team Melrose.

Hawick United’s unbeaten start to the season emphatically ended as Chirnside United beat the Tangerines 6-2. Declan Hogg and Simon Philbin scored for United.

Gordon also avoided a cup shock with a 5-2 win against Division C team Hawick Legion Rovers, as did Hawick Waverley as Luke Cooper scored two in a 6-0 win over Kelso Amateurs.

Simon Warren scored two as Tweeddale Rovers beat Linton Hotspur in the Peeblesshire derby, and Marc Gardner also grabbed a double as West Barns Star won 7-3 over Lauder on the East Lothian coast.

And Stow’s Shaun Hardie scored five goals in an impressive performance against Earlston Rhymers in a 6-1 win.

Division A sides Tweedmouth Amateurs and Langholm Legion also bagged wins.

Russell Hunter and Scott Leitch grabbed a brace each as Division B leaders beat their Division C counterparts CFC Bowholm 7-0, and Hawick Legion defeated Ancrum 6-2 with doubles from Scott Duncan and Lewis Ferguson.

But Gala Hotspur’s recent revival ended in dramatic fashion at Division C team St Boswells shocked their hosts with a 5-1 victory.

Kelso Thistle beat Berwick Colts 4-2 in the other Waddell Cup tie.
