FAIRYDEAN Rovers manager Steven Noble believes he has the trump card to cause a major upset on Saturday in the Scottish Cup.

Noble will welcome high-flying Elgin City to Netherdale on Saturday knowing his Lowland League team are rank outsiders to progress.

But the Gala gaffer believes his on-loan Rangers keeper Kieran Wright can help his side to a memorable victory over City.

The 17-year-old Ibrox protege, who is a regular in the Scotland age-group squads, is out on loan to the Lowland League club until the New Year.

Noble told the Border Telegraph: “Kieran’s confidence is sky-high just now and week after week he is making outstanding saves.

“He has grown as a player since coming to us at the start of the season and his performances are giving our defence plenty of confidence.

“I believe Kieran will make a huge difference on Saturday and can be the telling factor.”

Noble will also welcome back his captain Scott Main, who is currently serving a six match league suspension.

But he will be without the cup-tied Des Sutherland, who played in the preliminary rounds with Coldstream.

Noble continued: “We are not that far away from being at full strength.

“It’s a pity Des isn’t playing but we still have the players who can score goals against Elgin.”

Gala spies have watched Elgin’s recent rise up League Two, where they currently sit second, and reports suggest a shock is possible.

Noble added: “There are chinks in their armour – they can blow teams away but they don’t keep up the same tempo for an entire 90 minutes.

“We faced Clyde three seasons ago when they were in a similar position and ran them close. I feel we have a better team now and are more capable to beating a team from League Two.

“They are a very good side but they are only a division above us and we have home advantage.”

Hawick Royal Albert will also be hoping to cause a shock when they travel to Shielfield Park to face Berwick Rangers.

Dean Shanks’ team features several former Berwick players, including striker Josh Morris. Shanks said: “Josh is really looking forward to going back to Berwick.

“We have a few boys who have played for them in the past and it would be great for them and the rest of us if we could get a result down there.”

Selkirk, who are without a competitive fixture this weekend, travel to Easthouses Lily for a friendly.

Saturday's Scottish Cup second round matches at Netherdale and Shielfield Park both kick off at 3pm.
