GALA Harriers athletes enjoyed glorious sunshine as they took on the undulating Holybush to Boleside route for the club’s Cross Country Championships.

A total of 17 runners lined up on a bright, but slightly chilly, Saturday morning to compete in the annual event which takes in hilly terrain across the Southern Upland Way to Yair Bridge, followed by the River Tweed track downstream to Boleside.

Bob Reid took an early lead in the race which he retained to become first to finish the course in a time of 38.12, followed just over a minute later by Craig Mattocks (39.16).

First female to finish Di Lauder was third over the line in a time of 41.11, with Andrew Laurie third male to finish in a time of 41.38, followed by Magnus Inglis (43.28).

Fiona Dalgleish (43.45) was the second female to complete the course, with Kate Jenkins securing third place in a time of 44.23.

Tony Lunn finished in a time of 45.40, Fiona Shepherd (45.48) and Matthew Applin (46.14), with Tommy Knox crossing the line in 47.40, closely followed by Kevin Stevenson (47.51).

Gill Duncan completed the course in 48.01, followed by Garry Fraser (54.20), Ray Cunningham (57.59), Jill Fairbairn (58.03) and Eileen Nichol (59.31).

The club will hold their Ladhope Cross Country Handicap on December 10.
