A CHRIS Young goal keeps Chirnside United in pole position for the Division A title.

Young’s strike saw United win 1-0 at Tweedmouth Amateurs and keep them joint top with West Barns Star, who have played two games more.

Star were convincing 4-1 winners at Gordon to remain in the title race, but Stow’s hopes are fading fast after a 3-1 loss at Hawick Waverley.

Stow took the lead through Kevin Wemyss at Wilton Lodge Park but Scott Craig, Dean McColm and Davis Hope gave resurgent Waverley their sixth win in a row.

Conor Devaney scored two as Greenlaw won a nine-goal thriller over Tweeddale Rovers, who remain bottom of Division A.

Scott Duncan’s late strike ensured Hawick Legion won the Division B match of the day.

Callum Hope had put Hawick in front at fellow league challengers Newtown, but Louis Blacklock equaliser looked set to share the points only for Duncan to win it and open up a four point gap at the top.

Hawick United are eight points behind with five games in hand after Ross Scott’s hat-trick ensured the Tangerines won 5-2 over Biggar United.

Fraser Brown’s goal secured a point for Gala Hotspur at Kelso Thistle and pulled Spurs out of the relegation zone thanks to a shock 6-3 win for bottom side Leithen Rovers over Earlston Rhymers.

Scott Hunter scored two for Rhymers but Rovers fought back to secure their first win of the season.

Elsewhere, Coldstream defeated Linton Hotspur 4-2 at Auchendinny.

And there were two 3-3 draws in Division C as Berwick Colts and Ancrum and Lauder and Hawick Legion Rovers all took a point each.

The Waddell Cup first round tie saw Jed Legion make round two with a thumping 6-0 win over Selkirk Victoria. Chris Gillon scored two, while Jamie Swailes, Kyle Finlayson and Stuart Spence and an own goal completed the scoring.
