Melrose Storm 38
Gala A 10
MELROSE stretched their unbeaten National Reserve One campaign on Saturday with a derby victory over neighbours Gala A.
Storm, unlike the close encounter between the two earlier this season, ran in six tries during a dominant display.
Lewis Mallin, Ruairi Campbell, Chris Rogerson, Richard Ferguson, David Colvine and Richard Boon all touched down for the yellow-and-blacks.
Storm took the lead after only 11 minutes.
Colvine added the extras to the second try on the half hour.
And a further seven points to the hosts in the 38th minute gave them a commanding 19-0 lead at half time.
Melrose went all out for a bonus point try after the interval.
And they only had to wait two minutes to cross the whitewash for the fourth time.
Melrose were rebuffing anything that Gala could throw at them and indeed got a fifth try to take them over the 30 point mark.
Melrose stretched their lead to 38-0 with a sixth try just after the hour.
Gala were determined to avoid a whitewash and Gary Adams crossed to get the Maroons on the scoreboard.
Gala got a second try from Aiden Turner as time ticked away to make the scoreboard slightly more respectable.
Richard Tod was Gala’s man-of-the-match, while David Colvine was given the hosts' award.
