Earlston Wasps 28
George Heriots 3
EARLSTON High's youngest team enoyed a trip to the capital at the weekend.
The school's tie up Wasps Under 13s with Melrose Rugby Club were expecting a test of their metal from their counterparts at George Heriots.
Un-seasonally mild December conditions greeted both teams and allowed the game to played at a break neck pace with the visiting backs able to show their range of attacking skills.
The superior handling skills of the Borderers facilitated an eight try to one victory, but it was not all plain sailing as the home XV regularly mauled and rucked the Wasps back towards their goal line.
Finn Douglas proved to be the hat trick points scorer, ably supported by Will Stephen and Murray Mason.
The game management of Luke Townsend was a noticeable feature, especially with Robbie Robinson and Andrew Kirk providing a ready source of possession in the forwards exchanges.
The S2 and S3 squads enjoyed a lively and entertaining encounter in an in-house match back in the Borders.
The Wasps rugby programme goes into hibernation for the Christmas holidays, with training on the Gala 3G in January and matches versus Merchiston, Ayr and North Berwick HS to look forward to early in the new year.
