KELSO'S Festive Fling served up plenty of Borders success on Thursday.

Jedburgh jockey Callum Bewley produced the perfect ride on Total Assets to romp home by two lengths in the Kilco International Ltd Handicap Chase over 3.2 miles.

The 14/1 shot, trained by Simon Waugh, held off the challenge from Lucinda Russell's Itstimeforapint.

Galashiels owner April Strang Steel also enjoyed her moment in the winner's enclosure as Lough Derg Jewel cantered home in the 2.6 miles Samantha & Rebecca's 18th Birthday Bash Maiden Hurdle by 12 lengths.

The 9/1 shot was Donald McCain's 1,000th training success.

McCain tweeted: "So that's it then, 1,000 winners thanks to Lough Derg Jewel!A great effort from all the team and thanks to all who helped along the way."

Hawick teenager Blair Campbell pushed out Marcus Antonius to land the 2.2 miles SPG Fire & Security Ltd Handicap Hurdle for Lucinda Russell at odds of 16/1.

Bewley charged home on 33/1 outsider Rhymers Stone to take third place behind Malcolm Jefferson's Black Ivory.

Selkirk jockey Rachael MacDonald was beaten into second in the final race of the day, the 2.6 miles Amateur Jockeys' Association Handicap Hurdle.

The 24-year-old was in contention aboard Sandy Thomson's Berkshire Downs until a blunder at the last.

Forty Crown, at odds of 9/2, went away in the final furlong to win for George Bewley's Hawick yard.

The next meeting at Kelso is on Sunday, January 15.
