JORDAN Steele scored a double on his return to fitness to keep Lauder’s slim promotion hopes alive.
Steele had a spell on the sidelines as he recovered from viral meningitis but grabbed a brace in his first game back with younger brother Macauley scoring the other in a 3-1 win at Ancrum in Division C.
Jordan said: “I am glad to put the illness behind me and get back to full fitness.
“It was good to play up front with Macauley especially as he scored a superb 25 yard goal.”
St Boswells defeated Duns Amateurs 3-2 to close the gap at the top to one point, while Selkirk Victoria claimed their first win of the season, beating Melrose 3-2. And Louis Johnstone and Michael Clark scored as Hawick Legion Rovers beat CFC Bowholm.
A Jordan Yardley double ensured Chirnside United suffered only their second Division A defeat of the season.
Yardley’s brace, coupled with goals from Chris Dunne and Davis Hope, saw Hawick Waverley win 4-3 at Chirnside.
But United remain top of Division A after second placed West Barns Star could only draw 3-3 with Tweeddale Rovers. Grant Wilson, Greig Shortreed and Stuart Mullins’ goals pulled Rovers out of the relegation zone.
Stow lost their fourth game in a row with a 3-1 defeat to Greenlaw. Ex-Duns man Mark Weatherburn scored two and Ryan Beveridge added the third before Shaun Hardie claimed a late consolation for Stow.
An Ashley Langford double saw Jed Legion draw 2-2 with Gordon while Langholm Legion beat bottom of the table Tweedmouth Amateurs 3-2.
The Division B title race looks like it could be a thriller as the four contenders all won.
Hawick Legion remain top of the league as Callum Hope scored two in a 4-2 win at Linton Hotspur.
Coldstream Amateurs won 3-0 at Earlston Rhymers to stay second, and Newtown thrashed Kelso Thistle 7-3.
Ross Scott grabbed four goals as Hawick United thumped Leithen Rovers 6-2 to stay fourth, but the Tangerines have games in hand on Legion, Coldstream and Newtown.
But Gala Hotspur remain in relegation trouble after a 3-0 home defeat to Biggar United.
