GALA fly-half Gregor Hunter believes his team can get back to winning ways when they take on Watsonians at Myreside on Saturday.

The Edinburgh outfit sit just one place above the Maroons in the BT Premiership, just four points better off.

And Hunter has labelled the crunch match a “huge game” in their bid for survival.

He told the Border Telegraph: “It has been a tough few weeks for us in the league in terms of the teams we have played. We’ve had four or five hard games with the likes of Melrose and Glasgow Hawks.

“But Watsonians is a huge game for us with us being second bottom.

“A win would boost our confidence massively, but equally a loss would be hard to take. But it is a good opportunity – we beat them the last time out.

“While we have had some hard games, this one gives us the chance to kick-start our season as we have got some of the teams around us to play over the next few weeks.”

Hunter also says the side will be looking to respond after a heavy defeat to Hawick in the Border League on Saturday.

He added: “There will be a few changes to the side from the Hawick game.

“It was a game that everyone wanted to win.

“The Border League is really important to the club.

“But now the focus changes. The league fixtures are really important for us at the moment and everyone will be confident going into the game on Saturday.”

Gala and Watsonians have both lost their last five league games, a run that dates back to October.

Kick-off is at 3pm.

Elsewhere, league leaders Melrose face sixth-placed Stirling County.

Rob Chrystie’s men have been in formidable form, winning their last six league ties.

The boss will also be able to field a fresh team as the side didn’t play at the weekend.

Meanwhile Stirling, who beat Gala in the last game before Christmas, will also be looking to sneak away from the bottom end of the table.

That game also kicks off at 3pm.

In the BT National Division 1, sixth-placed Selkirk host fourth-placed Falkirk.

Selkirk were narrowly defeated by GHK in their last league game (38-36) while Falkirk have won their last two, against Hamilton and most recently Dundee HSFP.

That game is also a 3pm kick-off.
