LAST week at total of 10 junior swimmers from Galashiels headed over to Eyemouth to complete in the Annual Might Marlins meet.

This is always a good opportunity to gain some competition experience and show the coaches that their hard work at training nights is starting to pay off. The Gala swimmers certainly didn’t disappoint with some fantastic swims and lot of PBs.

A total of nine medals were won on the day which is a great effort for such a young squad and bodes well for the future.

The Gala Squad on the day were Anna and Lucy D’Agrosa, Arran and Innes Little, Layla Whitson, Katie Doyle, Archie MacDonell, Peter Forrest, Finlay Thomson and Gregor Collins.

The club would also like to thank Paige, Liam and Ellie for looking after the swimmers on Poolside.

On Friday, four senior members competed in the Scottish Schools Championships at East Kilbride.

Having Qualified for this prestigious event in November, Andrew Watt (Gala Academy), Lindsay Jack (Selkirk High), Elsbeth Roper and Lizzie Clelland (both Earlston High) headed through to the West to pit their wits against their peers in their respective qualifying events.

Andrew had a strong swim in the 200M Fly, Lindsay had PBs in the 100M Fly and 200M Back, Elsbeth had a PB in the 100M Free and Lizzie continued her winning form with a PB in the 100M Free collecting a Silver medal in the process… a truly outstanding effort by all.

This week will see Round 3 of the East District Age Group Championships where the Gala-based swimmers will be looking to emulate their medal success from round 2.
