FORMER Scotland star Nikki Walker resigned from his post as head coach of Hawick following Saturday's defeat to Melrose.

Walker, who is in his third year at Mansfield Park, will continue to take charge until the end of the season.

Hawick president John Thorburn made the announcement on Sunday morning.

He said: "The club would like to thank Nikki for his contribution for the last three years.

"He has added a professionalism to the coaching role that will be beneficial to a new coach."

Walker will take charge for Hawick's vital Premiership play-off as well as the Border League and Sevens games.

The former Scotland winger said: "I have made the call now to give the club time to get the right person in place."
